Demian Maia vs. Mike Pierce set for UFC Fight Night 42 on May 31 in Brazil

The upcoming latest South American fight card is already beginning to take shape with the addition of two familiar 170-pound faces.

Two Welterweight mixed martial arts (MMA) veterans eager to return to the win column, Demian Maia and Mike Pierce, are on a collision course for UFC Fight Night 42, featuring the finale for The Ultimate Fighter (TUF): "Brazil 3," which is set for Ibirapuera Arena in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on May 31, 2014.

The news comes from "UFC Tonight," which aired earlier this evening on FOX Sports 1.

Maia is in the midst of back-to-back losses for the first time in his MMA career, dropping a split decision to Jake Shields at UFC Fight Night 29 back in Oct. 2013 and, most recently, getting beat to the punch by Rory MacDonald to lose unanimously on the judges scorecards at UFC 170 just last month.

Nonetheless, the Brazilian jiu-jitsu stylist is holding steady in Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) rankings at No. 8.

Pierce, meanwhile, was the victim of a savage Rousimar Palhares heel hook attack at UFC Fight Night 29, tapping just 30 seconds into their match, only for the Brazilian to keep the hold locked in for several more painful (and unsportsmanlike) seconds.

Prior to the "Toquinho" torture, Pierce had amassed four straight wins inside the Octagon over the likes of David Mitchell, Seth Baczynski, Aaron Simpson and Carlos Eduardo Rocha.

Besides the main event between TUF: "Brazil 3" coaches, Chael Sonnen vs. Wanderlei Silva, no other bouts have been announced for the UFC Fight Night 42; however, those spots are sure to fill up sooner rather than later.

迪亚戈-桑切斯目前战绩为24胜7负，2013年，由于在次中量级战绩不佳，他选择降回到自己熟悉的清凉，并且在同年3月初的UFC日本赛中以 分歧判定击败了日本名将五味隆典(Takanori Gomi)。去年10月在休斯敦举行的UFC166中，桑切斯与吉尔伯特-梅伦德兹(Gilbert Melendez)打出了一场堪称年度最佳比赛的对决，虽然最终以一致判定告负，但是出色的表现得到了认可。

桑切斯上一次比赛再尝败绩，他在3月15日的UFC171中被不败新星迈尔斯-朱瑞(Myles Jury)判定击败，形成了2连败。不过由于表现精彩，UFC迫不及待地为他在2个月后就安排了新比赛。这位“终极斗士”第一季的获胜者还能有怎样的出彩表现值得期待。

罗斯-皮尔森(Ross Pearson)目前战绩15胜6负1无结果，去年执教“终极斗士 澳大利亚 VS 英国”为他带来了不少好运，在那之后他打出了2连胜，但是在去年底的英国赛中却因为对手梅尔文-盖拉德(Melvin Guillard)的违规膝击，而使得一场瞩目大战在第一回合就草草结束。此后两人的二番战也因为自己受伤，对手被UFC解雇而未能上演。本次对阵打法激 进的桑切斯，英国人将出和对策呢?

Fight Night 42将于北京时间6月8日在美国新墨西哥州阿尔伯克基举行，当晚的头条主赛也是一场轻量级对决，将由前UFC轻量级冠军本森-亨德森(Benson Henderson)迎战俄罗斯新星鲁斯塔姆-卡哈比洛夫(Rustam Khabilov)，值得期待。

两位同样是刚刚输给町田龙太的同是天涯沦落人，不知道穆尼奥兹和莫萨西谁能够打一个翻身仗。
