M-1 Challenge

These are the mega-event spectaculars held throughout Europe and the United States where Champions are crowned, titles are defended and contenders jokey for positions inside a highly competitive contention system.

In 2010, the M-1 Challenge underwent an overhaul from its original ‘team vs. team’ concept. Starting October 28th with the M-1 Challenge XXI: Grishin vs. Guram mega-spectacular, teams ceased to compete together; the shift was made and M-1 Global’s top M-1 Selection tournament fighters were ranked and squared off in epic battles that culminated with the promotion crowning its first-ever Champions in the lightweight (155 Lbs), welterweight (170 Lbs), middleweight (185 Lbs), light heavyweight (205 Lbs) and heavyweight (205+ Lbs) divisions.

For the first time in M-1 Global history, the promotion kicked off the New Year with champions crowned in all five weight classes. As of M-1 Challenge XXIII in Moscow, Russia this past March, Champions began defending their status at the top of the M-1 food chain by putting their belts on the line inside the confines of the M-1 ring. International Championship clashes held in packed arenas worldwide will continue to be fed by M-1 Selection tournament standouts and newly acquired talent. The formula – elementary. The result – extraordinary.

2011 is an action-packed calendar of M-1 Challenge events as the M-1 brand drives further into the U.S. and European markets. With eight M-1 Challenge mega-spectaculars marked, Champions will look to defend their titles against the top fighters in the contention system. Fuelled with stacked undercards featuring new and returning warriors, the M-1 Challenge events will rival promotions for unsurpassed excitement, delivering live audiences and viewers worldwide the ultimate fan experience.
