Growing up with a younger and older brother, Cottrell found himself in fights on a regular basis. The neighborhood the family lived in was rough. An unfortunate incident in fifth grade led him to wrestling. “I got knocked out at the bus stop,” said Cottrell. “It was takedowns with ground and pound after that.” Four years of high school wrestling, followed by a solid 6-2 amateur MMA record, had the Oklahoma prospect seeking the financial compensation the professional ranks had to offer. With the wrestling background, he is extremely confident on the ground, but isn’t afraid to stand and trade with any opponent. “I love to be in a striking war, until I feel it’s time to take the fight to the ground,” said Cottrell.文章源自武享吧-https://hula8.net/mma/19233.html
The self-described humble ninja has an impressive MMA career record thus far and looks to add another victory at LFC 45. “I do whatever I have to do to get the W and LFC 45 is no exception,” said the Oklahoma prospect. The Academy of Martial Arts is now where Cottrell calls home. Six weeks ago the decision was made to make a change and seek the help of Coach Kentrick Coleman. Like Cottrell, Coleman came from a wrestling background and is well-known in the MMA community as a highly skilled grappling and striking coach. Cottrell also teams up with Coach JJ Thompson at Gripgame when working out of town. Always the perfectionist, the 15-3 record isn’t enough for the LFC prospect. “My career has been fun, but not what I want,” said Cottrell. “I’ve fought and beaten some tough opponents, but I want to showcase my skills in the UFC.”文章源自武享吧-https://hula8.net/mma/19233.html

The Oklahoma wrestling standout isn’t a superstitious fighter. Leading up to the fight, Cottrell focuses more on technical training and strength and conditioning. Sparring is reduced to keep the body fresh and prevent injuries. Come fight night, the LFC newcomer begins his mental preparation for the challenge ahead. “I clear my mind, and let my training take over,” said Cottrell. Starting fast is top priority for this fight due to numerous sluggish starts. “I’m not normally the winner of the first round,” said Cottrell. “I have felt horrible at the beginning of fights, but get loose and feel great in the second.”文章源自武享吧-https://hula8.net/mma/19233.html
Tulsa native Ed Cline is the dangerous opponent Legacy matchmakers picked for Cottrell’s nineteenth professional fight. Cline is also a wrestler and coming off a loss to Dave Burrow (13-6) at LFC 35. Cottrell looks to capitalize on his opponent’s long lay-off. “This should be a great match up,” said Cottrell. “Ed is a great wrestler, but I want to stand and trade for three rounds and give the Legacy fans the type of fight they want to see.”文章源自武享吧-https://hula8.net/mma/19233.html
Three submission victories in his current four-fight winning streak has the Oklahoma prospect confident and ready to put on a show in his Legacy debut. “Legacy fans can expect a war and my hand raised come September 11th,” said Cottrell. LFC 45 is shaping up to be a fan-friendly event full of great fights and fantastic finishes. Cottrell sees September 11th as the next step in fulfilling his dream to compete at the highest level. “I have a long list of people to thank,” said Cottrell. “I would like to thank Coach Kentrick and all the guys at AMAJJ. Thanks to the coaches and guys at Gripgame. I have many friends and family, old training partners and coaches to thank. Sponsors that made this trip to where I am today easier. You all know who you are.”文章源自武享吧-https://hula8.net/mma/19233.html
